I have always worked with ideas of movement and land in my paintings.
While in the past these were linked to political or environmental ideas, such as migration, war, or climate change, this body of work is less didactic, and more conceptually formal and abstract in approach.
This series of paintings has music as its influence, color, and movement. Landscape stratification is still my underlying visual structure or system.
All of the pieces are triptychs- 3-panel or 3-canvas paintings, horizontally aligned. The panels or canvases are initially turned and moved in relation to each other until the composition has been determined. Then rhythm and harmony are worked out in the painting process, with each color, mark and value bearing musical qualities.
